The 4th Annual “Their Spirit Inspires” banquet was held Friday, June 19, 2009, at the Hyatt Regency Sacramento. The evening honored 15 Wounded Warriors injured while in service to our country by highlighting the role sports rehabilitation played in their recovery and adjustment to their disabilities.

The soldiers and marines participated in a three-day sports camp where they were taught to water ski, handcycle, kayak and canoe, white water raft and play sled hockey.

The Annual Spirit Award was given to Dave Conklin, Paralympic Gold Medalist for his dedication in teaching others and sharing his love of sports through adaptive recreation.

Wounded Warrior Ability Camp The week started with a Wounded Warrior Ability Camp for 20 soldiers and marines disabled in Iraq and Afghanistan. They received specialized instruction in adapted snow skiing and snowboarding at the Disabled Sports Program Center at Alpine Meadows Resort. They also participated in other winter recreation designed as part of their therapy and re-integration into the community including snowmobiling and sledge hockey.


Ability Challenge On Friday, March 13, the Ability Challenge ski race will team donors and sponsors with disabled skiers for a fun day of ski racing and on-hill activities. An après ski party and awards presentation was scheduled at the end of the day. Each team of 4 was paired with a disabled ski racer for the day.

Ability BashThe Ability BASH on Saturday evening, March 14th has been one of North Tahoe’s premier fundraising events for 15 years. This dinner, dance and silent auction featured a live band and was a wonderful uplifting evening for all in attendance.

19th Annual FOAM FEST! October 18, 2008 Crystal Bay, NV

Sample the finest micro-brews at the Foam Fest!

Beer enthusiasts can sample from more than 35 microbreweries on Saturday, October 18, 2008 when Disabled Sports USA Far West hosts its 19th annual FOAM FEST. The festival goes from 7:00 to 10:30 PM at the Tahoe Biltmore Casino Resort on the north shore of Lake Tahoe in Crystal Bay, Nevada. Taste great beer, dance to the awesome live band, Sol Jibe, and get chances to win cool raffle prizes such as season passes to Lake Tahoe Area Ski Resorts!

3rd Annual Their Spirit Inspires event June 17-20, 2008, Sacramento, CA

The 3rd Annual “Their Spirit Inspires” dinner was held Friday, June 20, 2008, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Sacramento. The evening honored men and women recently injured in Iraq, by highlighting the role sports rehabilitation played in their recovery and adjustment to their disabilities.

The soldiers took part in a three-day adaptive sports camp; teaching them how to water ski, play golf, white water raft, handcycle and play wheelchair softball.

The Annual Spirit Award was given to CHP officer Mike Remmel, the first double amputee in the state of California to return to duty as a CHP officer despite his disability.

Over $50,000 was raised to support the summer and winter programs of Disabled Sports.
