OUR PROGRAMS

Disabled Sports USA Far West leads the way in adaptive sports and recreation for people with disabilities. With over 40 years of experience, our trained staff and volunteers guide you in discovering life without limits. 

WINTER SPORTS 2009-2010

ADAPTIVE SKI AND SNOWBOARD INSTRUCTION FOR STUDENTS OF ALL ABILITIES.

Open daily from December 18, 2009 through April 17, 2010. The Disabled Sports Program Center is located at Alpine Meadows Resort in the North Lake Tahoe area of Northern California.

We are a PSIA Member Ski School (Professional Ski Instructors of America). Our PSIA certified instructors and trained volunteers make skiing or snowboarding possible for anyone with physical, cognitive or developmental disabilities.

Disabled Sports Adaptive Snowsports Lessons at Alpine Meadows Resort Adaptive ski and snowboard lessons daily 10:00am-12:30pm or 1:30pm-4:00pm

$65 Disabled Sports members with an annual participant membership fee of $30; non-member cost for lessons $200
Includes 2.5 hr private lesson and lift ticket.
Mono-ski, Bi-ski, standard skis or snowboard not included.
Equipment rentals:
Mono-ski, Bi-ski rentals from Disabled Sports: $10 half day, $20 all day.
Standard ski or snowboard rentals are ½ price at Alpine Meadows or Tahoe Dave’s (Alpine Meadows Rental Shop 530-581-8244, Tahoe Dave’s 530-583-6415)

Disabled Sports Adaptive Snowsports Lessons at Northstar-at-Tahoe Resort Adaptive ski and snowboard lessons offered on a limited basis throughout the winter 9:00am-3:00pm.

$175 Disabled Sports members with an annual participant membership fee of $30; non-member cost for lessons $390
Includes 4 hr private lesson, lift ticket and standard or adaptive equipment.

We suggest calling two to four weeks in advance to reserve the dates you desire.

SUMMER SPORTS 2009

Reservations begin May 1st, 2009.

Tahoe Sports Camp: Picture yourself at beautiful Lake Tahoe Kayaking, Cycling, Sailing, Scuba diving or playing Golf or Tennis. Experienced and enthusiastic adaptive sports instructors provide individual instruction at all levels. All adaptive equipment provided.

Cycling: The NorCal-Nevada Handcycling series is organized by 4 adaptive recreation programs based in Reno, North Lake Tahoe, Sacramento and the Bay Area. Each ride will offer routes along bike paths with distances suitable for beginner and advanced cyclists. Snacks/light lunch will be provided. Experience new riding areas, new adaptive cycles and new riding partners!
Cost: $10 (includes bike rental, if needed)

Mountain Biking: Test your off-road riding skills on Northstar’s premier downhill trail system. Hand cycle your way over rocks and obstacles; rip down dirt roads and single track trails on our One-Off cycles – developed specifically for adaptive off road cycling. Lift ticket, adaptive cycle and instruction included.

Water Skiing: Skim across a private lake on a hot summer day. What a fun way to cool off and meet new friends! Beginner and advanced skiers enjoy one-on-one instruction from experienced adaptive water ski instructors and trained volunteers.

4wd 4-WD Adventures: Experienced drivers get you out exploring the beautiful Sierra backcountry along rugged 4WD terrain.  Picnic lunch provided for day trips. All meals provided for 3 day trip on the famous Rubicon trail.

Donner Lake Campout Donner Lake Campout

A great program to share with family or friends. Sail, canoe, jet ski or enjoy a boat tour of Donner Lake while a delicious picnic lunch is prepared on the lakeshore. Experienced and enthusiastic Disabled Sports staff and volunteers accompany you for each water sport. Campsites, meals and adaptive sports equipment provided.

$60 per person, per day for water sports and lunch.
$160 for 2 days of water sports, meals and camping.

golf Golf: This year Disabled Sports will be offering adaptive golf instruction at five different venues: Sacramento, CA; Reno, NV;  Oakland, CA; Concord, CA and Stockton, CA. Instruction is open to anyone with any disability and whether you are an absolute beginner or a seasoned veteran, you’ll find a place at our golf clinics taught by PGA and LPGA golf professionals. $75 per Session for 9 hours of instruction.

Wellman Adventure Camp: City of Sparks Marina, Nevada
“People with disabilities and their friends and families are invited to explore summertime sports at Mark Wellman's Adventure Day at the Sparks Marina Park. The free event, presented by the Sparks Parks and Recreation Department, will feature hand cycling, kayaking and adapted rock climbing for all ages and abilities.”  Handcycles and instruction provided by Disabled Sports.

The Sunshine Kids Club: Chico, CA
People with disabilities, friends and family members of the Chico community are invited to enjoy an introduction to adaptive cycling at One Mile Recreation Area in Bidwell Park from 9am-1pm. This free event boasts access to foot pedaled recumbent, hand cycles, inline and side by side tandems. Picnic lunch is provided for all participants.
