VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIESSummer Volunteer Program Information Our summer volunteers assist with numerous aspects of all six programs:
Volunteers will be asked to assist with program event set-up and break
down and participant interaction such as registration, equipment selection,
and activity instruction (if qualified). Mandatory, free training is
provided for waterskiing, and cycling programs. Often, a volunteer’s
most helpful role is in being available to help students focus and make
their day outside a safe and fun learning experience. Our season runs
from mid-May through early-September with specific clinics dates for
all programs throughout the season. This winter, assist snowsports instructors in delivering the best
lessons possible to people with physical and cognitive disabilities.
Free training, clinics and lift tickets are provided. As an on-hill
snowsports volunteer, you will be asked to assist students and their
instructors with transfers, equipment set up, chair lift loading, and
skiing/snowboarding techniques. Often, a volunteer’s most helpful role
is in being available to help students focus and make their day on the
hill a safe, fun learning experience. Certain lessons require both you
and the instructor to repeatedly lift a student who may weigh up to
your body weight. It is not necessary for you to have experience teaching
people with disabilities how to ski or snowboard. Applicants should
possess strong intermediate skiing or snowboarding skills. The minimum
commitment we ask of our volunteers for the winter season is two days
for training and four days total of volunteering. A typical day runs
from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Our season runs from mid-December through
mid-April, seven days a week. Program Support Volunteer Information You don’t have to be a skier or snowboarder to become a volunteer. We have program support volunteer positions that become available on a rolling basis during the winter and summer seasons. We value your skill sets beyond snowsports and summer activities. Program support volunteers play a key role in making sure our Program Center and Special Events run smoothly and successfully. At our Tahoe Program Center location, Special Events and Fundraisers are a key part of our organization’s success. Volunteers will be asked to generate silent auction prizes, solicit sponsors, act as “event staff,” act as committee heads, help decorate for events, prepare food, sell tickets and help with event setup and breakdown. The Gentian Café is located on the ground floor of our Program Center. All proceeds from the café go directly back into our programs. Assist our talented café chef in delivering tasty meals and beverages to the public. Put your culinary and food service talents to work by making sandwiches, coffees, operate the cash register or become a grill master. Café experience is a plus, but not required. Volunteers should typically be available to help during our busy lunch rush from 10:00am-2:00pm one or more days of the week. Also at our Program Center, our Equipment Room has adaptive gear that is always in need of repair, organization and maintenance. If you have experience as a ski technician, or possess basic level carpentry skills, this could be the place for you. Volunteers will be asked to tune skis, make equipment repairs, brainstorm new ideas for equipment modifications and organize our shop. At our Sacramento Executive Office location, we are often looking for
volunteers who are able to help us assemble and collate our
company brochures on an ongoing basis allowing our promotional
materials to be stocked at all times. Questions? Feel free to call or email our Volunteer Program Coordinator |
